Maxis Health System

Maxis Health System is an integrated delivery network comprised of Marian Community Hospital, Tri-County Human Services Center, Inc., Maxis Medical Services and Maxis Foundation, which includes Marian Community Hospital Auxiliary.

Located in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, Maxis Health System and its affiliated organizations are sponsored by the
Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The Maxis name comes from Mother Theresa Maxis Duchemin, co-founder of the IHM congregation. Mother Theresa, the first U.S. born African-American woman to become a Catholic sister, established a branch of the IHM congregation in Susquehanna County that eventually became the Scranton Congregation.

The launch of Maxis Health System on July 1, 1998, was the culmination of many months of hard work by numerous individuals. This development is a very positive step in maintaining and expanding the quality health care services already offered by Maxis affiliates.

All the Maxis components were already related as affiliates, and had worked together for several years. Gathering into closer proximity was a natural step to serve the health care and human services needs of the area through an organized delivery system.

The roster of Maxis affiliates includes:

  • Marian Community Hospital, a 70-bed acute care facility in Carbondale

  • Tri-County Human Services, Inc., a provider of mental health and mental retardation services to northern Lackawanna, Susquehanna and Wayne counties

  • Maxis Medical Services, Inc., a non-profit corporation with employed physicians

  • Carbondale Area Physicians Hospital Organization (CAPHO), Inc.; a non-profit group which negotiates insurance contracts on behalf f the physicians and the hospital

  • a combined foundation that will oversee development functions, made up of the Maxis Foundation, the Health Services Foundation of Northeastern Pennsylvania and the Marian Community Hospital Auxiliary.

  • The Maxis trustees will oversee system-wide mission effectiveness, planning, finance and governance, along with community outreach.
