How to Become a Volunteer

Process to become an Adult Volunteer

  • Contact the Volunteer Manager at (570) 281-1069 to arrange an interview.
  • Meet to discuss personal interests and current hospital needs.
  • Complete the application and other requirements.
  • Arrange a general and department specific orientation session.
  • Establish a volunteering schedule.
  • Participate in ongoing educational sessions for volunteers.
  • Get a Criminal Background Check
Process to become a Junior Volunteer
  • Contact the Volunteer Manager at (570) 281-1069 to request an application.
  • Attend a Junior Volunteer Orientation session. (Sessions are scheduled in the Spring for summer volunteering and in the Fall for school-term volunteering. Additional sessions are scheduled as needed.)
  • Establish a volunteering schedule.
  • Participate in ongoing educational sessions for volunteers.
  • Get a PPD test
  • Get a Criminal Background Check
Before beginning volunteer service at Marian Community Hospital, Junior Volunteers must obtain health clearance as shown below from their pediatrician or primary care physician.

Common placements for Junior Volunteers are: Nursing, Radiology, Materials Management, Housekeeping, Gift Shop, Dietary, as well as other departments requiring office skills.

Special arrangements can be made for students who wish to use their volunteer service as career exploration. Students are asked to make known their educational goals.

Marian Community Hospital welcomes students completing community service hours required by their schools. Students are encouraged to initiate contact well in advance of the deadline for such hours. It is not possible to permit students to volunteer for extended hours during the school year.
